I would like to share a story with you that prompted Gayle to go before the city council in Stoughton, WI. A couple of weeks ago Gayle, Michael and I headed into Stoughton to support the local restaurants by going to breakfast. Just after we sat down an old man at the table next to us lit up a cigarette. Of course this bothered us as a family but especially mom who is now a one year lung cancer survivor. Not five minutes later just as our food arrived a table next to us of three young men all lit up to enjoy some nicotine after their meal. This was the tipping point for Gayle as she was forced to sit in cigarette smoke or leave. So her husband Michael approached the table and asked if they would take their cigarettes outside and explained his wife was a lung cancer survivor. Michael also offered to pay for their breakfast for doing so. The three young men all stood up immediately and handed Michael their check and left the restaurant. Wouldn’t you know after hearing this conversation that same old man lit up again. Unbelievable! We were forced to quickly finish our meal and escape for some fresh air. Do you have a similar story? We would love to hear it! Please go to our info request page and tell us your story. For the smokers who might be reading this. We are not trying to take away your right to smoke. Just in public places. Would you want your son or daughter eating breakfast at a gun shooting range with bullets flying all around as they were trying to eat with the possibility of being hit? If smoking only harmed the smoker I wouldn’t be waisting my time right now. Instead of leaving you with a quote today I am going to share a statistic. 10-15% of new lung cancer cases this year never smoked. That’s roughly 25,000 people! Protect yourself and your children who do not have a say in this debate. Write your congressmen and women, go to your cities public safety meetings. You have a voice, you have a choice!
