Over the last two years many people have asked how they can help keep our message of HOPE on the road? So, after lot’s of brainstorming we created “MOTORVATOR” miles. Simply click on the picture of the Motorvator (RV) on our home page and you will be directed to Pay Pal where you can purchase “MOTORVATOR” miles. Each mile purchased helps keep the MOTORVATOR” and our message of HOPE on the road. We are excited to hit the road again this year in the newly designed “MOTORVATOR” that features every color cancer ribbon because we believe “No one deserves cancer, everyone deserves HOPE”! Thanks in advance for your continued support of our mission!

We have just completed three more stops on the Lung Cancer Awareness tour. What an honor it was to meet the mother of a beautifl 19 year old girl who is featured on the bus. While we were at Duke-Raleigh Hospital we met Brittney’s mom and younger sister. Brittney was a national competative gymnist who was diagnosed with lung cancer last December. Just three short weeks after her diagnosis Brittney sadly lost her battle. I know I speak for mom as well when I say that having the opportunity to meet the family’s of those featured on our RV all throughout the country is no doubt what keeps us motivated to continue our journey. Sadly Brittney’s story is just one of over 150,000 each year.

After Leaving Raliegh we headed up to Washington D.C. for the third time this year! We pulled the new “Motorvator” right up in front of the Lung Cancer Alliance headquarters. It was awesome to see all of their faces when seeing the RV for the first time. I know it rejuvinated the whole team! The Lung Cancer Alliance staff is unbelievable in their commitment to make a difference in the fight against lung cancer. I have never met a group of more dedicated people in my life and I know mom and I are honored to help!

Finally we stopped just outside of St. Louis in Alton, IL where mom was the keynote speaker for a women’s health expo. Betsy did a phenominal job of putting the event together for the first time outside of the Hospital. Once again I was humbled by the comments from 100’s of women after they heard mom speak. She definately has a gift! We sold lot’s of books and lemons. The event also gave us a great opportunity to speak out about Lung Cancer as mom creativly tied it into her talk. Lot’s of women requested more information and they all loved the RV!

We are now back in Madison re grouping and meeting up with the local media before we head out to Cedar Rapids, Omaha, Denver, Chicago, Detroit and Columbus. I would like to encourage all who read this to make a donation to the Lung Cancer Alliance (the only national non-profit solely dedicated to patient advocacy, support and leading the way in the change of health policy) Without this dedicated group raising awareness to the number one cancer killer we will not be able to continue to raise the funds for research. The Lung Cancer Alliance is a very important piece to this massive puzzle! Please visit www.lungcanceralliance.org to help make a difference!

Before I get started about the tour I want to thank Angela Sizemore, Jennifer Harris, Cindy Ziegler, and Kimmie Hammond for being such great host and doing a great job in bringing women together to here Gayle’s inspirational message.

Gayle was recently featured on the cover of Wisconsin Womens Magazine. You can view the article at www.wisconsinwomensmagazine.com Gayle’s story will be featured in the November/December issue of Coping magazine. Also if you missed Gayle on “Living the Life” which airs week days on ABC family channel it will air again this month. For those of you in the Midwest Gayle’s radio interview on Water through the word will air this month on 700WLW am.

Gayle and Adam have teamed up with the Lung Cancer Alliance out of Washington DC to do a 10 plus city cross country tour during November in an effort to raise awareness. To do so they have re wrapped the pink RV (new pics and news clips soon). The new RV is blue and green and reads “NO ONE DESERVES LUNG CANCER!” It also features faces of survivors as well as those that have been taken by this disease. The tour began last week with a stop in Nashville, TN and a walk at Centennial Olympic Park in Atlanta, GA. The walk was the first annual and was made possible by Lung Cancer Survivor Ed Levitt and his great team. The event featured many survivors and their families as well as family members of those that have lost the battle to this disease. It was an honor to be a part of this first annual event! Gayle and Adam are currently in Raleigh, NC. The two will be at Duke Raleigh Hospital today at 1:30pm to answer questions, talk to Dr.’s and meet up with other advocacy groups. After Raleigh the two will make their way to Washington D.C. for the official kick off to Lung Cancer Awareness month. For more information on this tour check out our calender page or check out www.lungcanceralliance.org

Wow so much as been going on I apologize for not keeping you informed. We just returned from Virginia Beach where Gayle was interviewed in front of the “Motorvator” for the show Living the Life (CBN Christian Broadcast Network which also produces the 700 club) What an experience! Everyone was so nice and accommodating. The show will air nationally on Tuesday, October 9th at 8 or 8:30am on ABC Family channel. Living the Life also airs internationally in Europe and South Korea. Gayle was also interviewed on Water through the Word which is a radio program that airs on 700WLW as well as many other radio stations throughout the Midwest and should air in October as well. I also wanted to let you know for those of you who do not currently receive Zig Ziglar’s e-newsletter I highly recommend it! Zig Ziglar is one of the most influential motivational speakers ever and the author of many best selling books. On September 11th he published an article written by Gayle in his newsletter, what an honor! It has been amazing taking this journey with my mom this past year. Of course I have always been biased but am continually amazed every time she speaks in front of a large group and the comments I hear about how she has touched someone. It’s hard to explain that feeling but it is awesome and only motivates me more to help me get her in front of more people. We have lot’s of events planned for October and we are very excited! Please do not hesitate to contact us about having Gayle speak at your next event no matter how large or small your audience will be very inspired after hearing Gayle. We have some great news about November that I will be sharing with you very soon.
Very Proud Son!

Wow! What a response we have gotten over our recent appearance on NBC channel 15 last night. For those of you who do not live in Wisconsin the clip will be up on our media page soon. First we would like to say thanks to Evrod Cassimy and his team for taking time to come out and help raise awareness to the effects of second hand smoke.
Gayle recently attended a city council meeting here in Stoughton, WI to ask that smoking be banned in public places after an experience she had at a local restaurant. The city council voted and and passed it 6-2. This just moves it to the state level and does nothing in the city of Stoughton. Basically they are just going to follow what the state decides instead of changing themselves like Madison has already done. The media happened to be at this meeting and decided to do a story on Gayle and what she is trying to do being that she is a Lung Cancer Survivor. We have had a flood of e-mails of people expressing their opinions. We obviously raised some awareness last night. Although most of the e-mails were in support of our efforts there were a couple against it. I would like to share one comment that stood out to me and let you be the judge as to if this person should be deciding our future safety. “How about you just shut the f*&$% up and let people live their own lives instead of trying to force your opinions on everyone else? You want the ban, No one cares about what the rest of us want. Yes, I smoke and I don’t care. If you don’t like it move to a mountain.” My first thought after reading this was how I don’t care what the rest of us want? Hmmmm I guess this guy does. Again, we are not trying to make smoking illegal. We just want it banned from public places. It is a fact that second hand smoke is harmful! I am going to share some statistics with you that are shocking and hardly known. 10-15%of the new lung cancer cases this year will come from people who never smoked. To put this into perspective that’s about 25,000 people! Lung Cancer will claim more lives this year than breast, prostate, colon, liver, kidney, and melanoma combined. The 5 year survival rate of lung cancer is just 15% up only 2% in the last 30 years. You can make a difference no matter where you live in the country. Start with your city and go to the council meetings to express your opinions, write your state representatives, congressmen and women. They do listen and your opinion does matter! If you would like more statistics or information on Lung Cancer please visit www.lungcanceralliance.org. Thanks again for sharing your opinions with us! Quote of the day:“The obvious is that which is never seen until someone expresses it simply.” – Kahlil Gibran

I would like to share a story with you that prompted Gayle to go before the city council in Stoughton, WI. A couple of weeks ago Gayle, Michael and I headed into Stoughton to support the local restaurants by going to breakfast. Just after we sat down an old man at the table next to us lit up a cigarette. Of course this bothered us as a family but especially mom who is now a one year lung cancer survivor. Not five minutes later just as our food arrived a table next to us of three young men all lit up to enjoy some nicotine after their meal. This was the tipping point for Gayle as she was forced to sit in cigarette smoke or leave. So her husband Michael approached the table and asked if they would take their cigarettes outside and explained his wife was a lung cancer survivor. Michael also offered to pay for their breakfast for doing so. The three young men all stood up immediately and handed Michael their check and left the restaurant. Wouldn’t you know after hearing this conversation that same old man lit up again. Unbelievable! We were forced to quickly finish our meal and escape for some fresh air. Do you have a similar story? We would love to hear it! Please go to our info request page and tell us your story. For the smokers who might be reading this. We are not trying to take away your right to smoke. Just in public places. Would you want your son or daughter eating breakfast at a gun shooting range with bullets flying all around as they were trying to eat with the possibility of being hit? If smoking only harmed the smoker I wouldn’t be waisting my time right now. Instead of leaving you with a quote today I am going to share a statistic. 10-15% of new lung cancer cases this year never smoked. That’s roughly 25,000 people! Protect yourself and your children who do not have a say in this debate. Write your congressmen and women, go to your cities public safety meetings. You have a voice, you have a choice!

Gayle received two Silver IPPY’s (Independent Publisher Awards) in NYC last week. Pink Lemonade came in second out of 155 books submitted nationally for the Inspirational/Spiritual category. She received a Silver medal for best book marketing in print. Gayle’s book was also a finalist in the National Nautilus book awards. The highly publicized book The Secret ended up winning but, what an honor to be a finalist. Gayle and Adam also drove the “Motorvator” over the Brooklyn Bridge and have a video that will be posted soon. They definitely raised awareness while in NYC. Gayle would like to thank Margot from New Jersey for taking care of the “Motorvator” while her and Adam spent the week in Manhattan. Michael also joined Gayle and Adam to support them at the Book Expo America which took place at the Jacob Javits center in Manhattan. Gayle and Adam left NYC and headed to Washington D.C. They met up with Jennifer from AAUW (American Association of University Women) who is putting on an event at the end of the month in Phoenix, AZ where Gayle will be signing her book. Gayle and Adam also visited with the Lung Cancer Alliance to discuss raising awareness and teaming up with them at up coming events. They both were very energized by this meeting and are even more excited and committed to the cause. This weekend Gayle and Adam will be at the Northern Kentucky Convention center at the bridal show which benefits the Komen of Cincinnati foundation. The “Motorvator” will be parked inside the convention center. Stop by say hi and purchase a signed copy of Gayle’s book plus an opportunity to get a picture with the “Motorvator”. So far Gayle and Adam have traveled over 15,000 miles together across the country raising awareness! WOW!

First of all I want to apologize for not updating the blog in quite sometime. We have lot’s of exciting news! First off Gayle and Adam will be in Stockton, CA this weekend. Gayle is going to address the crowd of 5000 plus at the Stockton Ports baseball game in honor of “Pink Day” at the ballpark. The Stockton Ports are the minor league affiliate of the Oakland Athletics. (www.stocktonports.com) click on pink day add to see more. A special thanks to Sandra and everyone else who made Gayle’s talk at the prayer breakfast at Ft. Mitchell Baptist Church a success! Over 150 women were treated to one of Gayle’s best inspirational talks. I think Gayle is back on track with just a year under her belt since her surgery. Gayle’s book is a FINALIST for the national Nautilus book awards ( The Secret) is one of five books in her category. Also Pink Lemonade is a semi-finalist in the national IPPY awards in two categories! After returning from Stockton Gayle,Michael and Adam will be in NYC attending the BEA(book expo America). Please check back soon as we are going through lots of photos of our journey around the country to add to our site. Also some more media clips will be up soon! Quote of the Day: “If your never scared or embarrassed or hurt, it means you never take any chances.” -Julia Sorel
